Eric Sorensen

Veteran and widely respected journalist Eric Sorensen became Global National‘s Washington Bureau Chief in November 2006.

Prior to this, Eric spent 14 years with the CBC, covering many of the world’s major stories, from the Swissair crash off Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, and Princess Diana’s death in London, to the war zone of Afghanistan. He has also reported on Canada’s most infamous criminals, and protests and riots at the Summit of Americas in Quebec City, and the World Trade talks in Seattle.

Eric served as a parliamentary reporter in Ottawa for a number of years covering political stories and world events like the APEC controversy, NATO, G8, La Francophonie, as well as political summits and Trade Missions in China, Russia, Europe, Africa, Central and South America and the United States.

A graduate of the radio and television arts program at Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Eric launched his broadcasting career in 1973 at CHOW Radio in Welland, Ontario and worked for CKNX Radio and TV in Wingham, Ontario, CHEX-TV in Peterborough, Ontario before becoming news director and anchor for the Atlantic Television System in Moncton, New Brunswick. He has anchored for CFPL-TV in London, Ontario, and reported for CFTO-TV in Toronto and CBC Television and Radio.

He became the first Canadian to receive the Benton Fellowship in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Chicago in 1984. Eric has also taught journalism.

Eric and his wife Pamela have two children, son Dana, and daughter Maggie.
