Snow removal in full swing throughout Montreal

City workers in Montreal are hard at work removing the 25cm of snow that piled up over the past few days, including a massive snow storm that struck the city over Sunday night to Monday, dumping 15cm.

“Everyone is at work today,” said City of Montreal spokesperson Valerie de Gagne, noting that “everyone” included 3,000 employees and 2,200 pieces of equipment out on the streets and sidewalks.

Snow clearing operations ended a few hours after the final snowflakes fell on Monday.

That’s when workers launched into removing it completely. Trucks have been transporting the fluffy white stuff to the 29 sites scattered around the island.

De Gagne said snow removing began in the boroughs last night or early this morning.

Given that the city already had snow on Saturday, then accumulated more on Sunday, and was then walloped with more during the storm, it’s made for a big job.

“We have about 25cm to remove,” de Gagne said. “It’s quite a big operation.”

De Gagne said the city hopes to conclude its removal operation by Friday, but cautions that Mother Nature can wreck havoc on their plans.

“Tomorrow we can see will have more snow as well, so we can’t really predict a day that [operations] will end,” she said.

“Usually a storm of this [nature] takes four or five days, so we know we’ll be working until at least Friday for sure,” she continued.
