CORRECTION: This story was updated to include new information from the pilot of the plane.
The only thing usually in Shane Maze’s field is wheat, but that changed Saturday night when a floatplane made a surprise visit.
It happened on his land about 13 kilometres outside of Unity, Sask.
Maze didn’t see the incident himself but spoke with Global News on behalf of other family members who did.
The owner of the plane, who did not want to be identified, said he has owned it for several years and was out for a local flight Saturday night when the plane started to experience engine problems.
After assessing the situation, the pilot made the decision to put the plane down in the field. He said they landed under power but the plane nosed over because of the soft dirt in the field.
Maze said as far as he knows no one was hurt. There wasn’t much damage done to his field during the crash, he said.
More damage was done when the remains were towed away.
As for the plane, it’s unclear what’s happened to it, or if it’ll be soaring through the skies again.
