One man dead in Montreal apartment fire

One man is dead and another in hospital after flames ripped through an apartment complex on Marlow avenue in Montreal.

It didn’t take firefighters long to put out the blaze but the results were deadly.

The men were found lying in the hallway. They may have been overcome by smoke. one of them suffered burns to his face.

Residents say the dead man is the concierge of the building.

The fire broke out in a second floor unit at around 7:30 p.m. by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the fire had already spread through the walls of the building to the roof.

A general alarm was called and 30 people were evacuated.

Most residents were not able to return home with many of the apartments suffering smoke and water damage.

It’s not clear how the fire started, firefighters will try to determine the cause in the coming days.
