Boston Bruins’ Zdeno Chara will not face suspension for his hit against Montreal Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty, according to the NHL Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the federal minister responsible for sport said earlier Wednesday that the hit – which gave Pacioretty a concussion and fractured vertebra – was “unacceptable”.
Minister of State for Sport Gary Lunn says he saw incident Tuesday evening and hopes while the NHL takes it seriously.
It happened when Pacioretty’s head smashed into a glass partition as Zdeno Chara hit him late in the second period of the game.
Chara, a 6-foot-9 defenseman, was given a major penalty for interference and a game misconduct.
Many hockey enthusiasts hoped for further punishment.
