CALGARY- Charges are pending, after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed in the community of Riverbend.
Around 1 p.m. on Monday, an 89-year-old woman was crossing 18 St. S.E. westbound in a marked crosswalk, when she was hit by a truck making a left-hand turn.
The victim was rushed to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition, and died of her injuries around 7 p.m.
The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old man, was not injured.
Neither speed or alcohol are considered factors in the crash. The traffic unit is investigating, and say the truck driver will be charged.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
