77-year-old inmate dies at Dorchester Penitentiary

DORCHESTER, N.B. – An inmate serving a life sentence in a New Brunswick prison for sex-related offences has died.

The Dorchester Penitentiary says Robert Sheehan died Saturday of natural causes.

In a statement, the prison says the 77-year-old man had been receiving treatment following an extended, undisclosed illness.

Sheehan began serving his sentence on May 7, 1997.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security facility that can house up to 392 men.

A spokeswoman for the prison was not immediately available for comment.
