Winnipeg police say a failed traffic stop turned into an armed-and-barricaded situation Thursday afternoon in Elmwood.
Police said a cruiser was near Keenleyside Park just before noon Thursday when a man driving a sedan “abruptly cut them off” and didn’t stop at a stop sign.
Police gave a brief chase to try and stop the driver, but he parked his car at a nearby home on Prevette Street and then ran into the house.
The man would not leave, said police.
“The male was immediately confrontational with officers from within the house and refused to exit,” said Const. Jay Murray.
Neighbours said they were told to stay in their homes for several hours while the situation unfolded.
Murray said the man’s elderly mother left the house and wasn’t hurt.
At about 6:30 p.m., “after prolonged negotiations and assistance from the Tactical Support Team,” police were able to go into the house and arrest the man.
Residents tell Global News police have been at the home before. Police said the man was violating court orders to not be in the house or be in contact with his mother.
The police’s armoured rescue vehicle was also on scene and no injuries were reported.
Scott Davies, 39, faces numerous charges. He is in custody.
