MONTREAL – Authorities are investigating after the former mobster Giuseppe De Vito died in prison Sunday night.
Correctional Services Canada has confirmed that the 46-year-old was found unconscious in his cell in the Donnacona federal penitentiary in Quebec City shortly after midnight.

Prison authorities tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate De Vito before he was transported to the Laval University Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
There were no signs of violence on De Vito’s body. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
The former prominent Mafia leader was serving a 15-year sentence for drug smuggling. He recently testified at the murder trial of his estranged wife Adele Sorella, where he told the jury that he assumed responsibility for the deaths of the couple’s two young daughters.
