Hundreds of people suited up in their most appropriate public underwear and costumes to take part in the 8th annual BC Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair on Saturday.

Participants could take part in the 10k run, 5k walk, or the Booty Hunt – a fun scavenger hunt through the streets of Vancouver.

The event raises money for cancers below the waist.

This year participants raised more than $625,000.

“This event and the dollars raised are making a difference,” says Doug Nelson, president and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation. “We put all of these dollars to work with the men and women of the BC Cancer Agency who provide cancer care for every patient in British Columbia.”

“Dollars raised in this event have changed the way patients are treated here in B.C. and well beyond our borders.”

Over the years the event has raised more than $4 million.

The BC Cancer Agency says 48 per cent of new cancer cases in B.C this year will involve those which occur below the belt. Funds raised by The Underwear Affair are put to use funding leading edge research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency for cancers such as: prostate, testicular, ovarian, uterine, colorectal, bladder and cervical.

“It’s a great day as long as people remember to put their sunscreen on,” says Nelson.
