City officials have been forced to shut down Massey pool after someone broke into the grounds and poured a number of chemicals into the water.
City spokeswoman Kaeli Madill tells Global News vandals broke into the property overnight and poured a number of chemicals — including an oil-like substance — into the water. She says the water is no longer safe for swimming.
Vandals also toilet-papered trees and threw random objects — including a hammer and a shovel — into the water. A hole had been cut in the fence as well.
As of Thursday afternoon, hundred of families stopped by to take advantage of the hot temperatures and cool water.
The case is now in the hands of police to determine who may be involved.
One silver lining is the pool was scheduled to be closed in three days time anyway, although city officials say it is frustrating that someone would do this.
Only Wascana Pool is scheduled to be open until mid-September.
