Customers of Sofa and Bedroom Depot are scrambling to get their purchases after the company declared voluntary bankruptcy.
The company suddenly closed its two Calgary locations on Thursday. A bankruptcy trustee with PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc. is now in control of the chain and staff inside each location are going through inventory and sales records. They are reviewing all the customer orders and are attempting to match furniture in the stores with people who have paid for them.
Chris Shewchuk ordered over $2,000 in furniture and paid in advance. When his delivery didn’t arrive on Thursday he began to get suspicious.
“I got the run around all week since last week about when the shipment was coming in and lining up delivery and everything. They were supposed to deliver it to me yesterday and it just never happened. We took off work and stayed home from two to five waiting for a delivery truck, never happened,” says Chris.
The bankruptcy trustee says they will be reviewing all customer orders until the end of the week. The company has released the following information on orders waiting to be received.
There are seven Sofa and Bedroom Depots across the country.
