Work on part of the west LRT project has been shut down following another case of falling debris Tuesday morning.

Workers were raising a rebar column near 10th Avenue and 16th Street S.W. when the tension wires holding it loosened, causing the tall steel tube to lean over and come to a rest on a vacant building next to the job site.

No one was inside at the time, but the roof of the building was pushed in along with some damage to the walls and ceiling inside. The building’s owner, Steve Zamfer is frustrated.

“The problem is I’ve got a showing on Thursday to sell the property and it’s going to be a little hard to explain that the structure behind me just fell down on top of the building.”

The work site will re-open when inspectors can insure the same problem won’t happen again.

The building owner now has to make a claim with the City to cover the damages.
