EDMONTON- Debit cards for families affected by flooding in southern Alberta will be available beginning Sunday afternoon in Calgary and Canmore.
Pre-loaded debit card processing sites will be set up in three Calgary schools. One site has been set up in Canmore.
Other southern Alberta locations will be announced soon, the province said Saturday afternoon.
Individual adult evacuees will be eligible to receive $1,250 and children under 18 will be eligible for $500.
“I made a commitment to get assistance into the hands of those who are still displaced by the flood, as quickly as possible,” said Premier Alison Redford. “With the initial two centres open in High River, we will now open four new centres to get assistance into the hands of those who need it. We anticipate long lineups tomorrow and I ask for your patience as staff will be working as hard as possible to serve as many people as they can.”
There are guidelines, though, as to who is eligible to receive a pre-loaded debit card. Residents must have been issued an evacuation order and were unable to return home for a minimum of seven days.

Before heading to one of the processing sites, evacuees must first register with the Canadian Red Cross either online or by phoning 1-866-696-6484. The primary applicant must bring a photo ID, Social Insurance Number, proof of relationships within the evacuated household, or proof of their main home address including postal code.
If an evacuee is unable to attend the debit card processing site in person, a family member may attend on their behalf and sign a declaration of relationship to the evacuee. The family member must take the evacuee’s proof of residency and registration documents.
Evacuees who don’t have photo ID, proof of relationship, or proof of where they live may make a statutory declaration.
Once registered, evacuees can head to one of the following processing centres:
