Rietze makes court appearance, Friday

CALGARY – The man accused of killing his step-daughter in their Canyon Meadows home two weeks ago was back in court today.

Bradley Wade Rietze appeared via closed circuit TV from the Remand Centre. Rietze is charged with killing 17-year-old Brittney McInnes on January 18th. Today, the Court learned Rietze will be represented by defense lawyer Alain Hepner who will defend him through the long legal process ahead.

Rietze will be back in the Court of Queen’s Bench in two weeks after Hepner has a chance to review the evidence in the crime.

McInnes’ biological father also spoke out for the first time today about the loss of his daughter. As Terry McInnes and his family left court this morning, he expressed that he may not have been directly involved in his daughters life for some time, but he pledges to be present at every court hearing.

“She was just a wonderful warm-hearted young lady. Family is doing okay on my side; as for the other side, I’m not too sure. I’m sure they’re coping too. I mean, this is the guy who has been in their life for thirteen years, someone they were supposed to have trusted”, says Terry.

Earlier this week, friends remembered the teen at a Memorial service; many saying she “˜light up the room’.
