Oilers hire Associate Coach; bring back Assistants

Edmonton – The Edmonton Oilers have hired Keith Acton as an associate coach and have announced Kelly Buchberger, Steve Smith and Frederic Chabot are returning to the team’s coaching staff.

Acton brings an abundance of coaching experience.  He was an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season.  Prior to joining Columbus, he spent 10 seasons in Toronto as a Maple Leafs assistant coach, where he worked for two years with Oilers Head Coach Dallas Eakins, who also served as an assistant with the Maple Leafs.

Acton’s NHL coaching career started in 1994 with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he served as an assistant coach.  The 55-year-old also spent two years as an assistant with the New York Rangers.

Prior to his coaching career, Acton’s played 1,023 games in the NHL. His playing career included a stop in Edmonton where he helped the Oilers win the 1988 Stanley Cup.
