3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¾ tsp salt
8 oz butter, cold
¾ – 1 cup buttermilk
1 Tb orange zest
2 oz butter, melted
¼ cup sugar
Pre heat oven to 425ºF
Place the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, into a bowl and stir together. Add the butter and with your fingers work the butter unto the flour until it resembles coarse meal, don’t worry about lumps of butter that will just help with the flakiness.
Add the butter milk and gently mix together with a fork until it comes together.
Turn it out onto a cutting board and roll it out until it is about 1 inch thick. Cut them then brush them with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Place them into the pre heated oven for 10 – 12 minutes.
Serve with your favourite jam or just more butter!
