A dog is dead after a house fire in Burnaby this afternoon.

A two-storey home in the 2300-block of Kensington Ave. went up in flames shortly after 1:30.

It’s believed the blaze started in the basement of the home.

Firefighters tried to save a dog, but despite their best efforts at CPR, the canine did not survive.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
