EDMONTON – A convicted pedophile accused of breaching the conditions of his release from prison is off the hook.
Alberta Justice confirms that charges against Karl Toft have been withdrawn.
Toft, now 74, was charged last April after police received a complaint that he had been spotted in an Edmonton fast-food restaurant.
One of the terms of his release from custody is that he must stay away from any place children might be.
But the Crown says it has determined from the evidence that it probably wouldn’t get a conviction on the charge.
Toft has been living in Edmonton after spending several years in prison for sexually abusing hundreds of boys in New Brunswick.
