MONTREAL – Revenu Québec has filed 928 charges against Quebec construction magnate Tony Accurso and his companies.
Accused of tax fraud, Accurso could face fines of $8.5 million, as well as a prison sentence.
In addition to Mr. Accurso, his companies Simard-Beaudry Construction Inc., Louisbourg Construction Ltd., Marton Construction (a division of Louisbourg Construction) and Louisbourg Simard-Beaudry are accused of making false statements and asking for illegitimate tax credits and tax rebates. Charges of false billing have also been filed against Accurso and his companies.

The charges are related to periods between June 1, 2005 and March 31, 2010.
“It is thanks to the collaboration of UPAC teams that the numerous cases in the fight against corruption and embezzlement have become the focus of rigorous investigations carried out by the Revenu Quebec team, which today filed significant charges against individuals and companies that have abused Quebec’s tax system,” said Commissioner to the fight against corruption, Robert Lafreniere, in a statement.
Accurso and his business partner Franco Minicucci are also accused of submitting false tax returns from 2005 to 2010.
Both men were supposed to include in their reporting taxable income from the following companies: Simard-Beaudry Construction Inc., Louisbourg Construction Ltd., Marton Construction (a division of Constructions Louisbourg Ltd.) and Louisbourg Simard-Beaudry.
Revenu Quebec filed 14 other charges against Antonio Accurso on May 1, 2013.
