Edmonton – A State of Emergency has ended in the Town of Devon.

The decision to lift the Local State of Emergency was made during a council meeting Monday night.

The State of Emergency officially ended at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Due to high water levels on the North Saskatchewan River, the emergency was declared Saturday afternoon, as a precautionary measure to assist with the controlled evacuation of low lying areas.

The Devon Lions Campground and Voyageur Park were evacuated and closed, forcing about 2,000 people to leave the campground.

The Town of Devon says people can return to the campground once notice has been given by the RCMP.  Campers are being advised to fill up with water and dump septic tanks before returning to the campground.
