If you’re ready to make a permanent change in your lifestyle, then the Global BC Lifestyle Challenge might be for you. Over the next few months, Global BC will be helping a group of viewers change their lifestyle for the better – eating healthier, exercising more. Working in conjunction with dietitians at St. Paul Hospital’s Healthy Heart program and personal trainers from Endorphin Junkies, we will help you build a solid foundation of good habits. Make no mistake – you will have to work hard and be ready and willing for the challenge. This is not a TV reality show where you will have unlimited access to personal trainers, dietitians, and prepared meals. Let’s face it…that’s just not real life. In our Lifestyle Challenge, you will be responsible for the difficult task of motivating yourself to stay on track. You will have to throw away the junk food in your cupboard, and drag yourself outside for that walk. Though society is obsessed with weight loss and being thin, good health is more than just a number on the scale. Here are a few tips to get you started: 1 Think of healthy eating as a long-term endeavour. Going on and off different diets won’t achieve this goal. 2 Eat 3 well-balanced meals/day, including breakfast. 3 Choose whole grains (no white flour). If you haven’t switched to whole-wheat pasta, try it. You probably won’t be able to tell the difference. 4 Aim for a minimum of 3 pieces of fruit every day. 5 Watch portion sizes. Eating too much of anything, even if it’s healthy, can pack on the extra pounds. Avoid second helpings.
