Low income seniors receive boost in benefits

SASKATOON – Benefits for some seniors programs are going up July 1st.

The monthly maximum Seniors Income Plan benefit for seniors who live in special care homes will double to 50 dollars.

The maximum monthly benefit for seniors living independently is increasing by $10 to a monthly maximum of $250.

Currently, more than 16,000 Saskatchewan seniors receive income plan benefits each month.

The monthly income threshold for the personal care home benefit will also be going up by $75 dollars, to $1,000, $875 per month – about 700 seniors in Saskatchewan receive the benefits from that plan.
