Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks has announced he and his wife Rita Wilson have both tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Hanks published a note to social media Wednesday saying the couple came down with cold-like symptoms while in Australia, prompting them to go and get tested.
“Well, now. What to do next?” Hanks wrote. “We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.
“Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
The 63-year-old Hanks promised to provide updates on the couples’ condition when possible.

Hanks and Wilson, 63, were married in 1988.
The actor traveled to Australia to begin filming an upcoming movie about Elvis Presley. He is set to play Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, in the Warner Bros. production.
“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19,” Warner Bros said in a statement, without naming the person.
“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual.
“The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world,” the studio said.
The Warner Bros statement did not mention Hanks.
It was not immediately clear if filming on the project would be postponed due to the actor’s illness.

The couple’s son Chet posted a video to Instagram saying he had recently spoken with his parents over the phone and that they were both feeling OK.
“They’re not even that sick, they’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping,” he said. “I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about.”
Australia has seen 128 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and three deaths as of Wednesday.
