Police are still looking for a motive in the murder of a young father of two in North York.

23-year-old Sheldon Anthony Henry was shot and killed at the Sparroway public housing complex near Don Mills Rd. and Finch Ave. E. just before 9:00 p.m. on Monday.

Police say an argument took place before the shooting and witnesses say a number of young males were seen fleeing the scene through the complex and towards Finch Avenue.

Henry was a former resident of the complex, but had recently moved away with his two children and girlfriend.

While detectives can’t say exactly what motivated this fatal shooting, Global News has learned Henry was a graduate of a gang exit program called "Breaking the Cycle".

In March, he spoke to a group of kids after a Raptors game at the Air Canada Centre about doing the right thing.

His case worker, who does not want to be identified, says Henry spoke to thousands of youth over the past few years.

Tom Walker, program director of "Breaking the Cycle", says the murder of Sheldon Henry is a commentary on how difficult it is to get out.

"Their friends, their peers, other gang members don’t let them go," said Walker.

Police said they are looking at surveillance video and hope it will shed some light on the shooting.

This is Toronto’s 40th homicide of the year.
