Toronto Police are looking for a suspect after a student was stabbed at a Scarborough high school on Monday.

According to Const. Tony Vella, two 17-year-old male students got into a verbal argument at Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute, near Birchmount Rd. & Sheppard Ave. E., around 11:30 a.m.

One of the males pulled an unknown object out and stabbed the other in the stomach.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Vella says police have a good idea who the suspect is and are confident he will be located and arrested quickly.

The victim is in serious but non-life threatening condition in hospital with a puncture wound to the stomach.

No other students were at risk of being harmed when this occurred.

Stephen Leacock Collegiate is one of the Toronto schools that has a designated police officer in place.

The school was not placed under lockdown.
