It’s another blow to the Edmonton Oilers‘ lineup.
Newly signed defenceman Mike Green is out three to four weeks with a sprained MCL.
The team tweeted the latest injury on Friday morning, but provided no further details.
The injury was suffered in the Oilers’ 3-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
“He had some tests some yesterday — didn’t go our way. He’s going to miss some time,” said Tippett.
On the plus side, winger Andreas Athanasiou is fine and is expected to play Saturday against Winnipeg. He left Wednesday’s game after playing just one shift in the third period.
Kailer Yamamoto practised on his regular line with Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Yamamoto sat out the last two games after injuring his ankle Sunday in Los Angeles. The Oilers initially said he was week-to-week, but he could be back against the Jets.
“It’s been feeling better everyday. We’re going to see how it feels tomorrow and kind of go off that,” said Yamamoto, who has 21 points in 21 games.
The Oilers will also get Zack Kassian back from a seven-game suspension. Defenceman Kris Russell appears close to returning. He last played on Jan. 29, then went into concussion protocol.
“Russell has been skating hard. First real good practice for him,” added Tippett. “We’ll revisit him in the morning, also.”
James Neal (foot), Joakim Nygard (arm), and Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) remain out, though Neal did practise Friday.
The Oilers will host the Jets on Saturday with the Face-off Show on 630 CHED at 6:30 p.m. The game will start at 8 p.m.
