TORONTO — A Nashville restaurant recently featured on Kitchen Nightmares has been seized  by state officials for nonpayment of taxes.

Chappy’s on Church, a Cajun eatery slammed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay for its “bland” food, was padlocked this week by the Tennessee Department of Revenue.

“This is a very sad day since we have worked so hard,” owner John Chapman wrote on the eatery’s Facebook page. “We shouldn’t have done Kitchen Nightmares. We have spent several months struggling to come out of a negative situation.”

During the Chappy’s episode of Kitchen Nightmares, which aired on May 3, Ramsay said the restaurant should be shut down.

Chapman said the episode, taped last December, was not a positive experience. He said he kept Ramsay’s menu for only four weeks.

“It’s a show. It’s Hollywood,” he told the Nashville Business Journal in January.

On Chappy’s Facebook page, one person said Ramsay is not to blame for the restaurant’s woes. “If you would have kept some of Chef Ramsay’s ideals (sic) you would still be in business today,” wrote Penny Nagy. “Don’t blame this on him.”
