Athletes aren’t the only ones getting ready this week for the start of the 2011 Canada games, which open Friday night with a ceremony at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Groundskeepers such as Ski Wentworth general manager Leslie Wilson are finishing up final preparations at event venues.
The ski hill went through a number of “incredible” upgrades in the run-up to the games, Wilson explains, including doubling the ski hill’s snow-making capacity, changes to alpine runs and the construction of a new facility for freestyle skiing.
Coach Thor Dunning of the Nova Scotia Freestyle team says the new venue is on par with facilities on a national level. His team was out on the slopes practicing Monday, taking advantage of all the fresh snow that fell last week.
