The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating two officer-involved shootings that left a 27-year-old man dead Sunday afternoon in Lloydminster.
RCMP received a call at around 1 p.m. regarding a report of a stolen vehicle in the border city. The owner contacted RCMP to report seeing the vehicle being driven around Lloydminster.
Lloydminster RCMP said officers found the vehicle just west of the city and tried to pull it over, but an altercation reportedly occurred that resulted in shots being fired by an officer.
“The vehicle left the road and one police officer discharged his service pistol,” ASIRT said in a news release Monday afternoon.
The vehicle was driven away and officers pursued it, police said.

RCMP said the vehicle was located at about 2 p.m. by police members in central Lloydminster, and another altercation reportedly occurred that resulted in shots being fired again by an officer.
The male driver died, and a female passenger was taken into custody uninjured, police said.
RCMP said two officers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
ASIRT said it had been directed to look into the shooting.

ASIRT investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death to any person as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed either altercations and anyone who has video of the circumstances that led up to the shooting incidents to call (780) 644-1483.
The Lloydminster RCMP said it will continue to investigate the events leading up to the confrontation with police.
