PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – A huge sinkhole has closed both lanes of a Saskatchewan highway north of Prince Albert.
Officials say a washout from heavy rains over the weekend caused a portion of Highway 2 to collapse.

The sinkhole is located about 50 kilometres north of the turnoff for the national park community of Waskesiu.
Ken Cheveldayoff, minister responsible for the Water Security Agency, says workers are trying to figure out how to bring down water levels so reconstruction of the highway can begin.
The province’s Highway Hotline has reported there is no viable detour for those coming from the north into Prince Albert.
Cheveldayoff says there is one – but it will add about two hours to the trip.
