Thirteenth sign added to zodiac calendar

If you are one of those Canadians who checks their horoscope daily and is continually disappointed that your fortune never quite matches up with reality, worry not. A teacher in Minnesota has an explanation that may just change everything.

Parke Kunkle, an astrology instructor at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, is shaking up the zodiac calendar.

Your astrological sign is determined by the position of the sun relative to certain constellations on the day you were born. Currently there are 12 astrological signs, a belief that dates back to the ancient Babylonians.

But according to Kunkle there are actually 13 members on the zodiac. "I defined the zodiac by the constellations that are in the background when you look at where the sun, moon, and stars are," says Kunkle.

Kunkle has added a new sign to the zodiac, saying that "Ophiuchus has been around a long time, and the sun has been going through Ophiuchus for thousands of years."

Kunkle explains that the gravitational pull of the moon causes the Earth to wobble on its axis, rather than rotate in a smooth and consistent manner.

This wobble causes a tiny change in our view of the stars – and after 2,000 years, that change has added up. The original calculations for determining one’s astrological sign are no longer accurate, concludes Kunkle.

Despite the desperate cries from scientists worldwide that denounce the validity of astrology, Kunkle’s news has zodiac enthusiasts all a twitter.

If your sign is now Ophiuchus, astrologers say you can expect the traits of luck, harmony, and being a seeker of wisdom.

We want to know what you think. What does this new astrological sign mean to you? Are your stars suddenly aligned, or do you think the whole thing is a sham?
