However, the highway is closed east of Golden because of high avalanche hazard. For more on that, click here.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A small section of the Trans-Canada Highway in B.C.’s Interior will undergo a temporary closure on Saturday, January 25, for planned avalanche control.

The closure will happen near Chase, between Coburn Street and the Trans-Canada Hwy frontage, a distance of approximately one kilometre.

According to DriveBC, the closure will start at 10 a.m., and will last until 1 p.m.

On Friday afternoon, a small avalanche came down in that area, resulting in the highway being shut down for about an hour.

In related news, avalanche control work will also take place on Highway 31, well north of Nakusp, on Saturday afternoon.

The highway closure will take place west of Trout Lake — between Pearson Forest Service Road and Hill Creek Road, a distance of 9.3 kilometres — and will affect traffic in both directions, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A detour will not be available.
