EDMONTON- Four people are in hospital with various injuries after a two vehicle collision just east of Edmonton.
Strathcona County RCMP and Emergency Services were called to the collision on Highway 14, shortly before 2:30 Friday afternoon. The collision happened between Range Roads 213 and 214, next to the Tempo gas station.
RCMP say a black Ford Escape, heading east on Highway 14, was turning left into the Tempo gas station when it was struck by a brown Chevrolet Cavalier, heading west on the highway.
The driver of the Escape, a 48-year-old female, was taken by ground ambulance to an Edmonton hospital with undetermined injuries, according to RCMP.
There were three people in the Cavalier at the time of the collision. A 68-year-old female passenger was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries. The 27-year-old female driver and an infant girl were both taken by ground ambulance to hospital in Edmonton.
“The injuries, right now … they were serious, but everybody was conscious when they left,” said Corporal Darren Anderson with Strathcona County RCMP.
Traffic in the area was detoured for several hours as collision analysts investigated.
“Conditions at the time, from what I understand, it wasn’t raining, visibility was good. So, obviously, we will be looking at the actions before the left turn was made,” Anderson explained. “We will be looking at seatbelts, we simply don’t know yet, and we’ll be looking at speed.”
Anderson says at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
