Northwest gas station ordered to clean up fuel leak

CALGARY – A northwest gas station has been ordered to clean-up after thousands of litres of fuel leaked out.

It’s estimated between seven and nine-thousand litres of gas leaked over several months at the Gas Plus in Bowness.

The leak was discovered in May but it wasn’t until August that neighbours contacted Alberta Environment after noticing gas fumes in their basement.

In September the company was ordered to take action to reduce vapours as well as to submit plans on how to remediate the site.

Alberta Environment says the problem still hasn’t been addressed and that the company has not taken adequate or timely steps to address the situation.

Gas Plus now has until March 4th 2011 to clean up the leak.
