Injured soldiers in Winnipeg now have a comfortable place to stay while receiving treatment.
Officials opened the “Barrier Free Transitional Accommodation unit” at 17 Wing Wednesday morning. The three bedroom bungalow will accommodate seriously injured members of the armed forces who are getting regular specialized treatment away from their regular homes.

There are eight such homes at bases across Canada; this is the first one to open in Manitoba. The house is available at no extra cost to the soldiers who use it, and includes internet, phone, cable, housekeeping and transportation to and from treatments.
The Winnipeg house is located on Conway Street just outside the main entrance of 17 Wing at Air Force Way.
“The Barrier Free Transitional Accommodations properties exist to provide convenient living arrangements for our injured Canadian Armed Forces members and their families,” defence minister Peter MacKay is quoted in a news release. “Their care and support is vitally important, and this new unit in Winnipeg will provide them with much-needed respite while enduring an already stressful treatment regimen.”
