Suspect charged with 2nd-degree murder after man stabbed near downtown Toronto

Toronto police say a 31-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 51-year-old man was fatally stabbed.

A police spokesperson told Global News emergency crews were called to Jameson Avenue near King Street West just before 2 p.m. on Monday after the victim was found with injuries.

Toronto Paramedics said the man was taken to hospital in serious and “possibly life-threatening” injuries.

Police later said the victim, who was later identified as Toronto resident Andrew Downs, died in hospital.

In an update released Tuesday afternoon, officers said Dale Nelson of Toronto, was charged with second-degree murder.

He was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, anyone with information or anyone in the area with dash-cam video was asked to call police at 416-808-1400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
