Vancouverites are one step closer to having a single, system-wide access card for public pools, rinks and community centres, the park board announced Tuesday.

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation ratified an interim agreement with the Community Centre Association Presidents’ Group to create the new OneCard card, which will offer universal access to the city’s 22 community centres.

The card will allow access to park board operated facilities, such as pools, rinks and fitness centres, starting July 8.

In September, the card will also allow access to the community centre network, pending approval from the Community Centre Association Boards.

The OneCard will replace the current patchwork of more than 20 cards required to access different recreation and community centre facilities and register for programs.

The card will include a 50 per cent subsidy for those with financial barriers who qualify.
