TORONTO — An exhibition of stage costumes, instruments, album art and music videos by David Bowie will have its North American premiere this fall at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).
The show comes to Toronto Sept. 25 to Nov. 27 direct from the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London, where its five-month run is sold out.

Entitled David Bowie is, it features more than 300 objects from the legendary singer’s personal archive.
“This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate a living artist whose radical artfulness of identity has had an enormous influence on art, design and contemporary culture as we know it,” said AGO director and CEO Matthew Teitelbaum, in a release. “We are thrilled to work with the world-class V&A in bringing the provocative genius and vision of David Bowie to Toronto.”
The collection includes more than 50 costumes, including Bowie’s famous Ziggy Stardust bodysuits, as well as music videos, photographs, set designs and excerpts from films like The Man Who Fell to Earth.
The AGO is the first stop for the exhibition’s world tour.
Bowie, 66, released his first studio album in a decade, The Next Day, in March.
