Alberta Transportation is reminding Edmonton drivers caught construction zones along the southwest portion of the freeway to be patient. Construction currently causing headaches these days will be a thing of the past, on time and on budget.
The drive will form an 80 km free flowing loop around the city in the future. At the moment, however, some sections of the Henday are prone to congestion – with rush hour traffic getting caught at traffic lights where interchanges and overpasses are under construction. Although the projects have had their fair share of challenges, especially with the weather – Alberta Transportation says construction on the southwest leg will be done in the fall of 2011.
The Northwest leg of the Henday is on schedule as well – the loop will reach 70 km around Edmonton by fall of 2011. The Anthony Henday is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
