Winnipeg – The disputed grass on a boulevard outside a Winnipeg home will continue to go uncut.

Richard Hykawy appeared briefly in court Friday because he refuses to mow the lawn beside his Island Lakes home saying it’s the responsibility of the City of Winnipeg. The judge granted Hykawy an adjournment to allow him time to file proper documentation in order to challenge the City by-law.

Hykawy argues he shouldn’t have to mow the grass because it’s the city’s property and the city’s responsibility.

He has also covered all his own yard with rocks claiming he can’t grow grass  and no longer owns a lawnmower.

The maximum fine a judge can impose is $1,000.

The grass on the boulevard in question is all dead now, while all other grass nearby is green and healthy. Hykawy claims he has no idea how the grass on the boulevard next to his home died.
