Car thieves come in all shapes and sizes but one Maple Ridge, B.C. family got the surprise of their lives when they caught a bear brazenly breaking into their car.

The video called “Bearjacking” was posted Tuesday on YouTube, and shows the bear breaking into a white pick-up truck.

Rebecca Moore said she was at home with her family when they heard a loud noise. When they rushed to see what the noise was they caught the bear breaking into their cars.

“He was inside my car first of all, and he just opened the back sliding door and climbed out,” said Moore.

“Then he climbed in my husband’s truck. We just thought it was hilarious.”

Moore said they chased the bear away after taking the video, and don’t encourage wild life to come on to their property.

“We are regularly chasing animals away for our safety and the safety of the animal. This was just so amazing to see how easy he could access the vehicles, obviously he has done it lots of times before,” Moore said.

“I’d never seen anything quite so brazen. He’s obviously quite a pro and has done this many times,” Moore said.

Neighbour Cathy Bennett said she believes the bear may be responsible for other recent vehicle break-ins.

“We heard something and we thought it was a person breaking into a car, but I’m pretty sure it was a bear,” she said.
