After spending three weeks in recovery following a vicious hatchet attack, pawn shop owner David Woolfson is back on the job, but only temporarily.

After nearly twenty years, A1 Trading at 95th street and 111th Avenue will soon be closing its doors.

"I’ve been wanting to close for a year or so. This has accelerated it." Woolfson told Global News.

Customers found Woolfson beaten and bleeding behind his counter on March 1st. An undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry had been taken from the store. A 56-year old St. Albert man has been charged in connection with the incident.

The attack left Woolfson temporarily blind and his ear had to be reattached.

Customers who frequent A1, friends and neighbors frequently stop by to check on the owner and despite recent events Woolfson says he is going to miss the interaction.

"I have a terrific time with customers. You can see that. There’s no nonsense with me. He gives me a ridiculous offer, I give him a ridiculous answer." Woolfson jokes.

"I would love to sell it as it is. It’s a beautiful business for someone that wants to come into it. They’ll get a bargain because I want to get out."
