Regina police warn about jewellery scam

REGINA – Regina police are reminding consumers to know what they’re buying, and who they’re buying it from, after a local man was nearly taken by some unscrupulous jewellery hawkers.

On June 1st police were called about a scam where a man and a woman had approached a couple who were outside working in their yard and tried to sell them jewellery, allegedly to fund their trip back to Toronto.

The man was persuaded by the suspects to go with them to an ATM, but before he could hand over any money his family intervened and the suspects drove away.

The male suspect is described as Middle Eastern, with dark skin, short black hair, some facial hair, possibly in his 50s, wearing a yellow checkered shirt. The female suspect is described as Middle Eastern, with fair skin, in her late 50s, wearing a head scarf and a black dress with red beading on the front. The suspects were driving a small silver Nissan.

A similar scam has recently surfaced in Saskatoon as well as in neighbouring provinces.
