WHL Roundup: Friday, November 1, 2019

EDMONTON – Josh Williams scored twice as the Edmonton Oil Kings eked out a 4-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Scott Atkinson’s goal at the 11:56 mark of the third period preserved Edmonton’s (11-1-3) 11-game point streak that includes nine wins. Jake Neighbours also scored for the Oil Kings.

Sebastian Cossa made 26 saves for the win.

Nolan Kneen, Scott Walford and Eric Florchuk scored for the Blades (8-7-2), while Nolan Maier turned away 31 shots in net.

Edmonton scored on its only power play and Saskatoon was 1 for 5 with the man advantage.

WHEAT KINGS 5 BRONCOS 0

BRANDON, Man. — Ethan Kruger stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Wheat Kings blanked Swift Current.

Nolan Ritchie scored twice for Brandon (7-9-0), while Cole Reinhardt, Ben McCartney and Riley Ginnell chipped in as well.

Reece Klassen stopped 48 shots for the Broncos (3-8-3).

HURRICANES 8 ICE 2

WINNIPEG — Oliver Okuliar had a hat trick, including the second-period winner, as Lethbridge routed the Ice.

Justin Hall, Dylan Cozens, Chase Wheatcroft, Alex Cotton and D-Jay Jerome rounded out the attack for the Hurricanes (10-4-3).

Michal Teply and Cole Muir replied for Winnipeg (7-6-1).

WARRIORS 5 REBELS 2

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Brayden Tracey scored four times as the Warriors topped Red Deer.

Matthew Benson had the winner for Moose Jaw (7-6-1) at 14:07 of the second period.

Chris Douglas and Jaxsen Wiebe supplied the offence for the Rebels (4-8-2).

RAIDERS 6 PATS 3

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Spencer Moe struck twice as the Raiders doubled Regina.

Aliaksei Protas put away the winner 10:34 into the third period for Prince Albert (10-2-3), while Ozzy Wiesblatt, Reece Vitelli and Brayden Watts also scored.

Logan Nijhoff led the Pats (2-11-1) with two goals and Drew Englot added a single.

ROCKETS 6 COUGARS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Pavel Novak scored a hat trick as the Kelowna Rockets beat the Prince George Cougars 6-2.

Leif Mattson, Alex Swetlikoff and Nolan Foote also scored for the Rockets (9-4-2).

Matéj Toman and Reid Perepeluk tallied for the Cougars (4-10-1).

AMERICANS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Tri-City Americans downed the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2.

Paycen Bjorklund got the game winning goal for the Americans at 2:07 of the third period, while Edge Lambert, Samuel Stewart, Connor Bouchard and Marc Lajoie also scored for the Americans (8-5-1).

Ryan Gottfried and Andrej Kukuca scored for the Thunderbirds (5-6-3).

WINTERHAWKS 4 SILVERTIPS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — The Portland Winterhawks beat the Everett Silvertips 4-1.

Mason Mannek racked up the game winning short handed goal for the Winterhawks at 19:34 of the first period.

Seth Jarvis, Lane Gilliss and Matthew Quigley also scored for the Winterhawks (9-3-1) while Parker Hendren got the Silvertips’ (9-4-0) lone marker.
