KELOWNA, BC — A Kelowna Mountie is getting credit for saving a woman’s life.

The woman had been reported missing from a Kelowna recovery house late Sunday.

“The 26 year old Kelowna woman, who suffers from an alcohol addiction, had apparently purchased some liquor before wandering off and her family was concerned for her wellbeing,” says Constable Kris Clark.

He says the woman was located by Constable Marty Walker in Chichester Wetlands Park in Rutland partly submerged in the marshy water.

“She appeared to be bogged down in the muck and was exhausted by her attempts to free herself,” says Clark.

He says Constable Walker entered the marsh and held the woman above water until help arrived.

“The Kelowna Fire Department soon arrived with the necessary equipment to pull both the woman and the constable from the mire.”

Clark says the woman was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia. He says Constable Walker saved the woman’s life.

“Fortunately her family called when they did as it’s very likely the woman would not have survived much longer, let alone the rest of the night in the frigid waters.”
