SASKATOON – Saskatchewan environment minister Ken Cheveldayoff has expressed condolences to the family and friends of a conservation officer who died while helping police at an accident scene.

Police say 23-year-year-old Justin Knackstedt was fatally hit by a driver who they allege sped through the crash scene on Highway 11 south of Saskatoon while evading officers.

Cheveldayoff says in a news release that no family should have to deal with such a preventable tragedy.

Thirty-five-year-old Blaine Thomas Taypotat will appear in court today to face charges that include impaired driving causing death and flight from a police officer.
