MONTREAL – Last week was one many Montreal metro users want to forget. Riders had one word to describe it: annoying.
There were six major service disruptions over an eight day period between May 21st and 28th. One of the stoppages paralyzed the entire subway system for close to an hour.

“I don’t want to take the metro anymore! The bus or even walking is better,” Joseph Mutanda said outside the Lionel Groulx metro station.
Thursday morning, two top officials from the STM, Montreal’s transit authority, held a news conference to reassure riders the computer problems that triggered the recent breakdowns have now been fixed.

“We’re pretty confident it won’t happen again,” STM executive director Dominique Lemay told Global News.
Later adding, “We’re really sorry.”
The STM also presented numerous statistics to reporters showing delays in the city’s subway system are only a fraction of what European riders deal with it.
“Last year, line number 14 in Paris, a beautiful system, it was shut down for four hours. It happens!” STM general manager Carl Desrosiers said.
Starting Monday, the STM announced that it will provide better communication in the event of future shutdowns.
The agency has created four new accounts on the popular social media site Twitter – one for each metro line.
