Most of the building was evacuated. But many residents remained in their apartments despite the ringing alarms. There were no sprinklers in the suites, but because of the concrete building, the danger of the fire spreading was minimal.
The blaze began on the 9th floor of the high rise.
One woman was able to escape from the 9th floor and two seniors were rescued from the 10th floor. Others were treated for smoke inhalation.
Two suites were damaged by the blaze, but a number of families are still out of their homes.
Officials are still investigating what started the blaze.
