Another warning about replica guns

KELOWNA — Kelowna RCMP are issuing another warning about the dangers of replica guns following two weapons complaints.

They say the complaints happened within an hour of each other and involved youths firing air rifles.

Police say one of the replicas — an assault rifle — was “frighteningly realistic”.

“In fact, even under close inspection it is difficult to determine if the firearm is real or a replica,” says Constable Kris Clark.

He says dealing with these types of replica gun complaints is not only time consuming, it’s also putting lives at risk.

“Police have to exercise caution treating all firearms calls as real until proven otherwise. Responding with the necessary resources and tactics is time consuming, not to mention stressful, for everyone involved and any firearms call has the potential to end in disastrous consequences, real or not.”
